Hoang Vu Nguyen received a Master’s Degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2007. For his Master’s thesis, he investigated the impact of the urbanization process on residents in Hanoi, Vietnam. Hoang worked at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (VME) from 2007-2009, specializing in Indonesia and Brunei. He has conducted several fieldtrips to Brunei, Indonesia and Laos to study and collect cultural artifacts for the Opening Exhibition (2013) of the Southeast Asian Building of the VME. After finishing his Ph.D dissertation (2016) in Anthropology at the University of Toronto about Vietnamese Americans and their relations with the homeland, he continued to work at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology's Department of Research and Collection. Hoang has recently moved to the Institute of Cultural Studies since August 2019. He is looking forward to co-operating with world-wide scholars.
